In a stunning move, the British Empire, reeling from its recent defeat at Aden by the Turks, has turned the tables on Ottoman forces by the use of a little-known British officer, who has managed to win the confidence of Arab tribal leaders with his deft diplomacy and personal adoption of Arab ways. This envoy has been aided by a growing nationalism and discontent among the Arab peoples against their Ottoman overlords. Prince Faisal, Sheriff of Mecca, direct decendent of Mohammed, and chief Islamic cleric in the Arabian peninsula has declared the long-awaited jihad against the Sultan of Constantinople whom he calls "a false caliph who has usurped the holy places".
Backed by the Royal Navy and British forces landed in the Persian Gulf Area, the Arab rebels have succeeded in liberating most of the Arabian peninsula from Turkish rule. With the help of these unexpected allies, British commanders foresee no difficulty in recapturing the vital naval base of Aden and ensuring British domination over the lower Middle East.

Winter, 1921, Orenburg Garrison: Today at the Soviet 7th Army Headquarters in Orenburg, General Nikolas Bellic outlined his plan for troop deployments across the entire expanse of the western soviet republics -- a plan that (he reported) was also accepted by the Soviet General Staff in Port Arthur. General Bellic said that "[W]e have almost doubled the size of the Soviet military east of the Urals, in anticipation of a forthcoming offensive that will occurr across an epic scope. In anticipation of an enemy counteroffensive anywhere across our home territories, the 19th Don Cavalry Brigade will ride the Trans-Siberian railroad indefinitely, shuttling back and forth between Soviet regional bases, in order to confuse and aggravate any plans for an invasion of the motherland. They will get on at Omsk...and who knows where they'll get off?!"

Today, almost 8 years earlier than anticipated, revolutionary Chaing Kai-Shek takes control of the Peoples Republic of China! Many were relieved to see the glorious communist leader take the seat of power of the PRC. "I intend to rule with an iron fist!" said Shek. "Only through back-breaking labor can you find true happiness and satisfaction! Look what Comrade Lenin and his Russian People to the north, they find joy in their work. I say to the rest of the world, join communism, fight for the peoples freedom, and find joy in your work!" Chairman Shek had no further comment.

Revolution in South-East Asia

The Republic of Indochinese Communist Enlightenment (or RICE) has overthrown their French oppressors. The guerrilla warriors took control of the tyrannical French Government and have established the GLORIOUS CAPITAL OF GREAT RICE LEADER, which, for the sake of you simple minded round eyes, may simply be called Bob. All industries have been conserved and the great people of RICE hope to liberate their neighbors and bring peace, stability, and humor to the world.

Censorship Laws Ended - Associated Press Returns

After much debate, the Associated Press has been granted to the right to publish its findings, as to better serve the Great Powers of southeast Asia.

Reports released to AP suggest that Russian forces will begin the conquest of Constantinople in the very near future, as well as conquering territories in Persia. Ottoman forces have pledged to defend their homeland, even while other forces move closer and closer to taking over Aden from British hands. The Ottomans also taunted the Dutch, whose fleets, say Sultan Midic S Hurton, look like s***.

On the far eastern front, information released to the AP suggests that the Japanese and French are allying together, joining as one to crush the Chinese behemoth that is quickly emerging as a dominant power in the far east. While the Chinamen have wished to refrain from hostile activities, that wish may not be possible.

Britain was not available for comment, but rumors swirl over conflicts in Ban and Kam.

Red Army liberates Rumania...sets its sights further south?

Spring, 1920, Odessa: In the morning mist rising from the Rumanian plains, the 3rd Guards Infantry Brigade of the 47th Shock Army of the Soviet Union assaulted the border between the province of Odessa and Rumania, smashing through the meager border defenses and completely securing the region. Two weeks into the offensive, the Soviet flag flew victoriously over the capital city of Bucharest, signalling the end of the flawless liberation of the people from their harsh, imperial rule. Colonel Grigori Vitkevitch, commander of the 3rd Guards Infantry, set an amazing precedent for future Soviet military policy: he invited a whole host of wartime news correspondents from the Associated Press to accompany his men throughout the battle. He told reporters that "[T]he exploits of our glorious, liberating heroes must be told to the world with all available haste. The presence of reporters in the midst of battles gives our soldiers courage and inspiration, knowing that all the world is watching." Premier Lenin himself gave the order that reporters should accompany all frontline combat units on the Balkan Front, ensuring continuing coverage of all future Soviet military actions.

Ottomans Set Sights on Russia

Spring 1920: With the breaking of the Russian-Ottoman Peace Treaty, the Ottoman Empire (as seen in picture) has no choice but to declare war. The deployment of Russian troops into Rumania has shown the Russian's sneakiness and unwillingness to abide by any agreements. In addition, the intel leak of March 1920 has been traced to a citizen living in Russia named Ston Tahmnoj. Such news has spiked feelings of uneasiness and fear withing the emprie. Starting in Fall 1920, the Ottomans will focus all firepower on the Northern Front to fend off the pesky Russians. This long-term military campaign, codenamed Operation Sneak, will serve to prevent the Russians from entering Asia Minor and the Near East. When asked about the Russian agression, General D.H. Loudoun proclaimed, "The Russian's invasion of Rumania was completely uncalled for and it is our every intention to drive them out. Our first priority is to protect Constantinople."

Even though most of us see the updated map at school, I think each turn it should still be posted. It's hard to remember everything.

Only the Beginnings

I just wanted to clarify some things:

Opening moves are indeed due to me tomorrow at 3:00 pm, and they probably will be every day at that time. If you can't find me, put you orders either in my mailbox or on that shelf in Dr. Shurmer's office. The map we are using does not have abbreviations. You can either use the abbreviations from the other version of the map, use the first three letters of a region (except for Pern, Persia, and the Persian Gulf, also if the region has multiple words to it, use the first letter of each word), or, best yet, write out the full name. Unlike last game, we are not out to get you with the territory abbreviations: as long as you can clearly get your point across, you'll be fine. We are using regular Diplomacy rules (the major change from last game is that you must be in an unclaimed or foreign build point fall turn to claim it) with the one exception that 2 people can declare victory with a 2/3 bp majority. On the whole, we want this to be more fun and less intense than the last game.

British Empire cedes Singapore to the Dutch

In the spring of 1920, the King of England, Scotland, and Ireland, Emperor of India, Ruler of the Waves, and Sovereign of his Brittanic Majesties' domains beyond the sea upon-which-the-sun-never-sets, officially announced a British withdrawal from the island of Singapore.

"It is our declared intention that there be no hostilities between us and the Dutch Republic's holdings in the East Indies. We are ceding this port and coaling station to the Dutch people as a token of the warm feelings we harbour towards them. We confide that the other Great Powers will not take this decisions of ours as a sign of weakness and not delude themselves that the sun is setting on the British Empire nor that Britons have drawn closer in the slightest to being slaves in apposition to ruling the waves."

The post I deleted was not from a participant in the game. So...dont worry about what anyone posts, everything is ok. Also, I specifically called out the poster in my previous statement.

Is this serious? Are you two actually going to delete posts that you don't like. If so then that is completely unfair. Dr. Shurmur never did that in the old game. It takes away part of the point of this website. Everyone should be allowed to post who is playing.

Strict censorship laws enacted by the Soviet Union and the Empire of Japan

February, 1920, Vladivostok: In a rare meeting between officials from the Soviet Union and Japan, strict censorship laws were enacted in the main worldwide communication networks, which are (fortunately enough) controlled by the above two countries. Premier Lenin decreed that "the networks are not, repeat not, to be used by anyone other than those directly involved in world events. A diplomat is not allowed to use them, only the leaders of the world's nations themselves."
Japanese leaders announced also that all unauthorized communications will be immediately removed and their originators severely punished.

Soviet General Staff created as preparations for war begin

January, 1920, Moscow: Today, Premier Vladimir Lenin of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics announced the formation of the Soviet General Staff, in order to better plan and execute military operations throughout the Soviet Empire. The General Staff announced the restructuring of the Red Army and Soviet Navy into two separate divisions: the West Army Corps, based in Orenburg, and the Asian Imperial Command, headquartered in Port Arthur. The huge naval base south of Manchuria has now become the main headquarters for the Soviet military east of Central Asia, and Soviet commanders have promised that Port Arthur will never fall to the enemies of the Soviet Union.

Fall, 1998, Baghdad: After luring an Indian fleet into Iran this past spring, the glorious forces of the UIR stormed across the border with Iraq, retaking the entire country and wiping out all remnants of the infidel fleet. As the flag of the UIR was raised over Tehran this morning, the last Indian prisoners was hurled to his death from the top of the minaret of the Atiq Mosque in the old city, as a part of a huge ritual execution of captured Indians.
