Two Russias sign Peace Treaty

Despite considerable poltical and ideological differences, the leaders of the two Russian republics have recently signed an official ceasefire and brokered a treaty recognizing the Ural Mountain chain as the boundary between their two nations. A mutual non-agression pact is now in place between the USSR and Eastern Russian Republic, set to expire in three years with the possibility of renewal then. Premier Taftikov, in defence of this treaty, announced:

"Despite our differences, President Lebowski and I have come to see that we are all Russians and threatened by a common enemy. The great alliance of the Western powers have seized control of the entire Arctic Circle and now threaten the coasts of both Russias. It is time for us to take to heart that American revolutionary proverb: "We must all hang together or we shall most assuredly hang separately." From the Brandenburg gate to Vladivostok, the Russian people shall join together to resist the might of Western Imperialism. We call upon all inhabitants of Africa and Asia to join us in this struggle, lest you be once more driven under the heal of Colonial despotism."

UIR adapts general strategy based on current worldwide crisis

Fall 1992: UIR Minister of Propaganda Omar al-Jaziirahh announced today that in light of recent world events such as the outbreak of hostilities all over the globe, Prime Minister Marwan will authorize the creation of the Grand Army of the Republic (see below) to counter the increasing threat of the separatists within the UIR itself, and to promote the Republic's interests across her ever-increasing domains.


Prime Minister Marwan flew to Canberra for an urgent military meeting with his counterpart from Down Under, while he dispatched Foreign Minister Navi Araz to a similar meeting with the Kenyan delegation on the border between north and south Sudan.

In other news: Although there are questions about the safety of the Republic's ambassador to Hong Kong, he has denied all requests to flee to safety, instead volunteering to "stay til the bitter end" among his Chinese friends. Additionally, PM Marwan wishes to welcome the populations of Armenia and North Sudan into the safety and security of the Republic.

British China to the Free World: India is not to be Trusted

Hong Kong--In a conference today, Lord Tunnicliffe, and Chief Military/Foreign Policy Minister Artemis Grunwald announced "India is a foe not to be trusted in the least." Tunnicliffe further said: "We were mid-way through a 2 year truce and they [the Indians] were planning to break our agreement and take Western China, a major agricultural province with mainly women and children. Luckily our chaps inside in the Indian government gave us insight into the plot and we quickly neutralized the threat." The two gentlemen also commented on the Indian government and their plots to take Lanzhou "we saw that one coming," said Grunwald "we got the right men in the right places". Finally, they concluded with a stern warning to the rest of the world: "They aren't to be trusted at all; we came to the conclusion that they are out only for personal gain, and will stop at nothing to have things done their way. We urge the rest of the world, espicially those in proxmity to the Indian Ocean, to use extreme caution when dealing with the Indian government. They'll turn on you faster than a cup of Earl Grey Tea goes luke warm (and thats rather fast). Right now, they should be concerned if their minor bun engine was made." The two men left for a meeting with their naval and ground force commanders.

March 25, 1992 - Australia's quest for peace and economic prosperity in its sphere of influence brought Australian naval forces into the Indonesian archipelago and other islands of the South Pacific this month to quell Micronesian piracy. The Australian Navy was able to quickly hunt and shut down all pockets of pirate resistance. All nations previously besieged by these pirates hailed the Aussies as liberators, and asked to be taken under the protection of the Regency of Australia. Prime Minister Theo Russell Cooper signed a lasting treaty with the governments of these island states, creating the Pan-Oceanic Empire, ruled by the Australian government.

UIR and India disarm along their respective borders with Iran

Today, Tehran, Iran: Prime Minister Marwan of the UIR met today with Prime Minister Thumpasery of India in order to sign a historic document that marks a true milestone in the relationship between the two historically-hostile regions. The treaty that was signed called for the "immediate de-militarization of each of the signatories' borders with Iran" and established the Islamic Revolutionary Republic of Iran as a neutral buffer zone between the two nations who are completely mobilized for war. Prime Minister Marwan told the press that "...the UIR has pressing matters to worry about on our other borders, we have no conflict with our good friends from across the Indus." International observers are optimistic for this treaty, especially with regards to the brewing conflicts to the north and to the south of the UIR. The situation in the Soviet Union is as fragile as ever, with Soviet forces occupying Armenia and possibly menacing the UIR state of Turkey. To the southwest, UIR forces in Egypt are very near significant concentrations of foreign soldiers, yet Minister al-Jaziirahh reports that "negotiations between the UIR and Libya have come upon some difficulties."

Soviet Government Evacuates Moscow

As Eastern Russian forces closed in on Moscow, left relatively undefended by the Red Army which was stationed along the frontiers, all high-ranking Soviet officials and representatives of the Grand Soviet were ushered into helicopter gunships for the evacuation. As Premier Taftikov prepared to leave in his private jet, Commy 1, he issued the following statement to the people of Moscow:

"Comrades, today you have witnessed the depravity and treachery of our capitalist neighbors. We were willing to live in peace with them, even though they were capitalist and we suspected their treachery, but they could not wait to stamp out our glorious revolution. We shall fight them in the forests, we shall fight them in the factories; the hammer and the sickle shall not be laid down until we have freed the Motherland from its invaders. They have won this battle but they have not won this war. I go now into but a brief exile from you. May the spirit of Lenin and our forbears preserve you until I return."

Following this, the Premier and Soviet government were transferred to Kiev, capital of the S.S.R of the Ukraine. Red army forces were marshalled for an immediate counterattack. Soviet generals are confident that their vast numerical superiority will allow a swift recapture of Russia's historic capital and annihilation of the invaders.

Egypt liberated in brilliant combined-arms assault

This morning, elite units of the UIR stormed across the Suez Canal, shattering the paltry Libyan defenses and quickly taking control of Egypt's capital city of Cairo. Within the next few hours, the remainder of Egyptian territory was under UIR control and General Mohammed Juhziz was appointed the military governor of Egypt until the situation is fully resolved and pacified.



UIR forces were welcomed into Cairo by joyus, cheering crowds, happy that the oppressive Libyan rule in Egypt has ended. We are still waiting for a comment from Minister al-Jaziirahh and Prime Minister Marwan.

In other news, the UIR Ambassador to the Soviet Union flew to Moscow today for a meeting with the Soviet Premiere...but once on the ground he noticed that the Soviets had been removed and replaced by the Eastern Russians...oops. He has recently been promoted to the position of Ambassador to the Eastern Russian Nation (in Moscow).

South Africa and Antarctica Agree to Terms

Word came from the South Pole today that South African and Antarctic governments have reached agreements on South Africa's massive levels of pollution and a few minor territorial squabbles on the Antarctic continent. In a move met with much relief world wide, South Africa promised to halt its polluting ways immediately. Commented a South African official, "We really had no idea that we were polluting so much. We feel terrible about it. When President Kaytoo heard that we had been emitting such an inordinate amount of pollution he choked on an ice cube. He spent several moments suffocating until one of his aids managed to save him. It was a dire situation to say the least, and very, very, very embarrassing. I would not want to be that guy who choked on an ice cube."

Along with promises to halt its pollution, South Africa agreed to cede all territories in its possession, namely the British Antarctic Territory and Sanae, to the Frozen Antarctic Government led by President Imapen Guin as long as South African forces in Antarctica were allowed to be convoyed safely back to the African mainland. Offered another South African official, "We are going to begin our withdrawal immediately. Our army will be convoyed back to mainland Africa by the end of the year in hopes of regaining some ground on the African continent."

Eastern Russian Forces March Into Moscow

This seems like just as good a time as any to formally declare war on Russia.

Unknown to the public eye, a recently foiled assasination attempt on Eastern Russian President Lebowski was traced back to Russia. After capturing and torturing one of the masked assailants who survived, the Eastern Russian Presidential Bodyguard chopped him up into little bits and left them in a doggie bag on the doorstep of the Russian Embasy. The President suffered no life threatening injuries during the attack on his motorcade.

The 3rd Armored Cavalry Division marched unopposed into Moscow and will remain for an unspecified amount of time. As of this time, talks have ceased with Russia. Close aides to the President say that they will be willing to give back Moscow to Russia given that "the Reds will agree to our terms."

Eastern Russian Republic to appoint Jeffrey Lebowski as President

The only thing he had going for him was his love for White Russians. Go figure.

In a press conference after his appointment, President Lebowski was quoted as saying, " I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing. "

In other news, preliminary reports indicate that Walter Sobchak will be appointed to seceratary of war. He, however, does not roll on Shabbos.

UIR regrettably announces plans for Ethiopian intervention

Riyadh, Spring 1990: Minister al-Jaziirahh announced today that the UIR will intervene in Ethiopia within the next few months, in order to prevent continuation and escalation of the current humanitarian crisis in the region. This announcement clears up much of the confusion and speculation brought about by the lack of information surrounding the UIR's objectives in Africa. Al-Jaziirahh told the press that "the situation in Ethiopia is absolutely horrendous...General Juma, the perpetrator of hundreds of thousands of genocidal killings, must be stopped immediately. Since neither Kenya nor Libya has attempted to stop him with effective means, President Marwan has decided to intervene with soldiers and sailors from the UIR in order to bring some semblance of peace to the region." He declined to mention the specifics of the plan, but he did mention that UIR General Avraham Adan's 41st Marine Division is conducting amphibious landing operations on the coast of Somalia, a mere 13 miles from the border with Ethiopia.

In a last, pre-invasion call for local intervention, al-Jaziirahh pleaded for the nearby Libyan contingent in North Sudan to deploy their forces into Ethiopia in a last-ditch attempt to end a horrific genocide and to have African affairs maintained by other African powers.

Return of the Reds: A new Soviet Empire

Soon after the fall of the Soviet Union, the weakness of the Russian state became apparent as democracy failed to flourish and power fell into the hands of an oligarchy of ex-KGB officials and plutocrats. Sour relations with the West and several fruitless incursions into former nations of the Soviet Empire brought on the fall of this regime. The eastern provinces of Russia declared independence, a move the central government in Moscow was powerless to prevent.

Against this backdrop of chaos and pessimism, a movement began to emerge which promised a return to the security and power which Russia had but lately enjoyed. The Neo-Communist Party, under the leadership of General Vladimir Taftikov, former KGB agent and protege of Putin, began to seize control of Moscow and the government. Soon their appeal as bringers of security and offers to protect the economic well-being of all Russians had their effect. The Communist Party was voted into power once more by a large majority. In a triumphal rally in Moscow's Red Square, Russia's new premier, Taftikov, proclaimed the "restoration of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics" and promised "freedom from want and fear to all Russia's people and to any others who wish to join our glorious Union".

Though the new regime professed non-expansionist intentions, relations with the European Union reached an all time low. Though neither the United States nor NATO remained to challenge Soviet power, the EU anxiously sought allies across the Atlantic. To better protect its borders, the USSR quickly occupied the former satellites of Bellorussia and the Baltic states. The newly robust Red Army was soon forced to also occupy the Caucasus and Ukraine in order to protect Russian citizens from political persecution. In this way, the original western border of the USSR was restored against western agression.

Soon Soviet satellite intelligence detected European and Quebeqoi naval vessels putting out to sea in unusually large numbers and EU forces advancing into Central Europe. In response to this threat, the Premier himself made the following statement on State Television."In order to maintain the sanctity and security of our beloved Motherland from Capitalist incursions, I have ordered a general mobilization of the Red Army and Navy and demand that European forces halt their eastward advance immediately or they shall be considered enemies of the people and treated as such."

UIR readies to defend Muslim homelands; Sails to contain S.T.E.A.L.

Today, Ankara, UIR: The state of Turkey (one of many that make up the UIR) began to call up reservists in the far eastern provinces, anticipating a possible Soviet assault across the border with Armenia. Soviet intentions are unknown as of now, but Minister of Propaganda al-Jaziirahh told the press during a Baghdad news conference that "the UIR is not going to war agianst our Russian neighbors to the north, we are simply wary of the lack of communication from the Soviet embassies in Damascus, Baghdad, Riyadh, Jerusalem, and Ankara." Current reports say that local Mujahideen forces have been gathering in the eastern parts of Turkey, but are not equipped with the mechanized equipment for waging offensive warfare.

In other news: The UIR launched a fleet of cruisers into the Red Sea, after receiving reports of profound piracy off the Somali Coast. The fleet pledges to defend all territory from the Suez Canal to the horn of Africa, to help contain the pirate threat. Leading this resurgance in piracy has been the nefarious group who calls themselves Somali Tactical Engagement and Asset Liberation (S.T.E.A.L.)...

Lord Tunnicliffe Announces "Operation Kipling" in Lanzhou

Hong Kong-- Today, Lord Tunnicliffe, current Chinese head-of-state, announced Operation Kipling: a defensive plan to protect its western province of Lanzhou. When asked what the plan entailed, Tunnicliffe replied: "We aren't using this as an offensive weapon, yet, however, it is a plan that will keep our borders intact. Our government does not wish for war with the Indian provinces, we only mean to secure or borders; however, further intrusions upon Chinese land will be taken as hostile. Again, we don't want war, but will not hesitate if the need arises." Tunnicliffe had no further comment.

Antarctica "Will Intervene" in South Africa to Halt Dangerous Levels of Pollution

Spring - 1991

After years of intensive research into global climate change, researches in Mawson have determined beyond any doubt that South Africa is the largest contributor to global climate change. These studies show that if South Africa does not change its environmental policies immediately, the world as we know it will end within five years. Said Head of Research Dr. Apartheidisbad, "The current levels of waste spewing forth from South Africa are so high, the water will flood every piece of land within the decade if no one intervenes. Left to its own devices, South Africa poses a threat not only to itself, but to the entire world. They must be stopped at all costs."

President of Antarctica Imapen Guin released a statement saying, "We have begun to mobilize all of our forces in order to destroy South Africa so that the whole world can be saved from their dangerous environmental policies. I call upon all members not only of our Antarctic nation, but of the world, to destroy this menace. They endanger not only our lives, but the lives of our children, our children's children, and our children's children's children, not to mention our beloved pets. When my son, Hesapen Guin, asked me what would happen to our dog, Checkers, if South Africa were allowed to continue, I replied 'Checkers would die a horrible, horrible death.' My boy burst into tears, and asked if there was anything I could do to stop them. To my son, my nation, and my world: I have decided to declare war on South Africa. Let there be no rest in Antarctica until they have been removed from the map. I call upon every citizen of Antarctica to rise up in arms to defeat the environmental threat that South Africa poses to the world.

"Our troops have already secured strategic locations in the South Pole and the Norwegian Dependency, and have more training to defeat the South Africans. I issue this lone message to South Africa: Change your environmental policy and leave the Antarctic continent immediately, and we may spare your nation."

South African officials have yet to respond.

Recently, photos of UIR army holiday celebrations were released, in order to show the international community the tolerance and compassion that the United Islamic Republic always demonstrates in order to provide beneficial diversity in its lands. Minister of Propaganda Omar al-Jaziirahh said that "these pictures of Christian Arab soldiers in the UIRA(rmy) celebrating their holiday of Epiphany is an act that the government is proud to endorse. We have no ill will towards those of differing ethnicity or religion, understanding that diversity is important for a productive and fruitful society." Al-Jaziirahh also doffed his turban to the festive holiday carnival spirit of Quebec, saying that a cheerful holiday mood never hurt anyone, as he said that it seems the UIR's prayers and hopes for change in the world have come true.

Antarctica and Australia Relieve Tension in Southern Hemisphere

Winter, 1990 -- Rumors have been going around the international diplomatic circuit concerning alleged relations between Antarctica and the Regency Down Under. These two powers have today made official their relations with one another. They formally announced the creation of the Greater Indian Ocean Co-prosperity Sphere, in order to promote peace, goodwill and economic growth and prosperity between them. Demilitarization of parts of the Indian Ocean has begun.

Hong Kong-- In a battle in downtown Beijing, British forces successfully captured, and executed, Chairman Mao, after waking from a long "slumber." Queen Elizabeth appointed venerable SAS leader Lord Robert Tunnicliffe IV, who has assumed role as Chinese head of state.

United Islamic Republic established with President Marwan at its head.

In a move described as "shocking" by international media, Khaled Al-Assad, leader of a powerful private militia, staged a coup in the Kingdom of Arabia, deposing the King and instituting a new government in its place lead by the charismatic Habib Marwan. Marwan's first act as President of Arabia was to announce a secret alliance with the nations of Syria and Iraq, bringing them both under his direct control as members of the new United Islamic Republic. Marwan and the UIR (whose nations were formerly described as the Near East) are poised to peacefully enter the world stage, as the newest member of the "global community".
